Overview
Bible Quest ("we", "our", "the app") is a gamified Bible study app available on the web and as an Android/iOS app. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and the choices you have. Playing as a guest, without creating an account, still involves some data collection described below.
Information we collect
Account data. If you sign up with email, we (via our backend provider, Supabase) store your email address and a securely hashed password. If you play as a guest, we assign an anonymous device-scoped account with no email or password — you can upgrade a guest account to an email account later without losing progress.
Gameplay and progress data. Quest completions, quiz answers, XP, streaks, badges earned, and optional written reflections you submit during a quest are stored against your account so your progress persists across sessions and devices.
Interactive scene content. During "Encounter" scenes, the choice you make each turn is sent to our server, which forwards it (along with the relevant scripture passage) to a third-party AI language model provider to generate the next story beat. We don't send your name, email, or account identifiers to the AI provider — only the in-scene choice text and passage context needed to continue the story.
Advertising data. The app displays ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may collect device identifiers (such as your advertising ID), IP address, and app usage data to serve and measure ads, and — where you have not opted out — to personalize them. See "Advertising" below for your choices.
Device and diagnostic data. Standard technical data (app version, device type, crash logs) may be collected to keep the app stable and secure.
How we use your information
- To create and maintain your account and sync your progress across devices.
- To operate gameplay features — quests, streaks, badges, Daily Bread, and completion cards.
- To generate live Encounter scene content via our AI provider.
- To serve and measure ads, and to keep ad frequency within reasonable limits.
- To maintain, secure, and improve the app, and to diagnose crashes or abuse.
Who we share data with
We don't sell your personal data. We share limited data with the following service providers, only as needed to run the app:
- Supabase — authentication and database hosting for account and progress data.
- Our AI language model provider — receives in-scene choice text and scripture context to generate Encounter story turns (no account identifiers sent).
- Google AdMob — serves in-app ads and collects advertising identifiers as described above.
- Vercel — hosts the app's backend and this website.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or the public.
Advertising and your choices
Bible Quest uses Google AdMob to show ads. Where required (for example, in the EEA, UK, and similar jurisdictions), we ask for your consent to personalized advertising before any personalized ads are shown, and you can change that choice at any time from the app's Settings. You can also reset or opt out of ad personalization at the device level via your phone's OS ad settings. Bible Quest is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly serve personalized ads to users we know to be under 13 — see "Children's privacy" below.
Data retention and deletion
We retain account and progress data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by submitting our data deletion request form, or by emailing nixondeveloper@gmail.com. We'll delete your data within 7 days of a verified request, except where we're required to retain it longer by law.
Children's privacy
Bible Quest is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard measures — including encrypted connections and row-level access controls on our database — to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email nixondeveloper@gmail.com.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do, and for material changes we'll provide additional notice where appropriate.
